MFD Awarded $52,500 in Grant From LEO for Additional Turnout Gear

The Milford Fire Department is proud to announce that through the work of Local 5481 and Chief Thomas Moore we have been awarded a grant of $52,500 from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) to order 15 new sets of turnout gear to provide our firefighters with a second set.
When turnout gear comes out of a fire, it is covered in dangerous carcinogens. These carcinogens remains on the gear until it can be cleaned. The cleaning process cannot be done until the firefighter is off of shift, which means firefighters must wear dirty gear throughout the remainder of their shift after a fire. This second set of gear is a huge step forward in reducing the risk of cancer amongst our firefighters.
The Milford Fire Department would like to thank the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters, the LEO, the Township of Milford, Local 5481, and Chief Thomas Moore for all of their hard work on securing this grant.
